Hi again!
Last Saturday morning we decided to do a very short trail to get that Vitamin D! The weather was super nice (warm and sunny) and was about 75 degrees when we started. Perfect day for a hike in Vegas.
We love to start our hiking mornings at Einstein’s. There is nothing better than some good ole carbs from an everything bagel in the morning before a hike along with some OJ!
This super short trail is only about 1 mile long and is part of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, but it’s in the free section so you don’t have to worry about making a reservation or having a pass! Wooo
We started out great, except for me forgetting my hat and my phone. Ugh. But luckily my fiancé Eli had his haha. We need those trail pictures! Duh.
The trail is pretty easy for most skill levels, it was just poorly marked in a couple spots so we got a little lost….whoops. But we found our way back! Make sure you pay attention if you do this trail because there is a lot of little side trails going off of the main trail everywhere, so it is easy to get sidetracked on the wrong path accidentally.
You also get to walk next to a little spring, hence the name, which may be wetter or dryer depending on the time of year. We happened to go in the spring so there was a small trinkle in some areas.
This area is also great for bird watching! We saw a ton of birds along the whole path, and lots of lizards. You might even be able to see a tortoise out there in you are lucky!
If you come to this tree like we did, go left, not right. We went right and it leads to a sort of dead end
We finally managed to get back on the trail (don’t judge us), and headed back the way we came to the parking lot!
This short trail would be good for kids and people who can’t walk longer distances on a typical trail, and of course your dogs as well! There is also lots of parking. This trail shares a parking lot with Kraft Mountain and the Girl Scout trail.
Ash Springs trail is also pretty easy to find, just head west on Charleston towards Red Rock, turn right onto Calico Basin a little after you see the Red Rock Canyon sign, and follow that road around through a little neighborhood until you reach a dead end on Sandstone Road where you will see a sign for Kraft Mountains parking lot.
I would rate this trail a 2 out of 5. It was super short and sweet, but poorly marked and lots of little side trails everywhere so it’s easy to get a little lost. It is also full sun most of the way, so make sure you wear safe sunscreen and a hat!
Have any of you guys done this trail? What did you think about it? Tell me below! 🙂
