Have you ever been to Goblin Valley State Park?
It is near Hanksville, Utah and is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. We sent half a day there when we stayed nearby in Capital Reef.
The whole park is only about 3 square miles, so it is totally doable in a day or less! And it is filled with these sandstone structures called hoodoos.
The hoodoos are an interesting shape, to say the least!! They look like….well…
penises!!!
It is hilarious to see it in person, and they are HUGE. Most of them were bigger than my husband and he is about 6 feet tall.
I think this would be a wonderful place to take your kids as well since the trails are relatively short and easy to do. And most kids would have a blast weaving in and out and exploring around the various hoodoos.
The park also has a wonderful picnic pavilion and plenty of parking, even for RV’s and big trucks.
Goblin Valley is also apart of the International Dark Skies community! So if you love stargazing like we do, then this would be such a fun place to come back to at night or spend the night at their campground.
They even have two yurts you can rent year-round in the park!
I still need to convince my husband to stay in a yurt for a night. We stayed in a tiny house a few years ago near Zion and he was not impressed haha. I think he hit his head on the ceiling at least 5 times while we stayed there. I am only 5 feet so I was perfectly content in there, but maybe he just needs to learn how to duck? š
If you are ever in the Capital Reef or Moab area, I would recommend you take a stop off here if you have time! It was definitely a cool experience to go see, and something I will likely never forget!
I don’t think we would come back here alone, but I think if we ever have kids some day then we would definitely want to bring them here! I am sure the kids would also be giggling nonstop at the hoodoos the entire time! lol
What is your favorite park in Utah? They are SOOOO many amazing ones there! Let me know in the comments what yours is š
